Coming in February at Boulder Swing Dance

There's a lot of exciting things starting in February!

Mondays at Kakes

We start a new Level 1 Swing series this month on February 5th from 8-9 PM.  If you are new to swing dancing, this is where you should start.

If you've completed a month of Level 1, then you're ready to start our Level 1.5 from 7-8 PM.  This month we'll be focusing on promenades and breaking out of eight count patterns.

Level 2 will be from 8-9 PM and is for those who've taken two months of 1.5. This month we're on our Intro to Balboa series- we start at the beginning and build into fun balboa patterns.

FLATIRON STOMPERS

Instead of our Level 2.5, for the next three months we will be running a session of the Flatiron Stompers, our intermediate team. Prerequisites: have finished both months of Level 1.5. We ask you to register with a partner, but if you don't have one, please still show up the first class of February. There may be others who also don't have partners. This is a three month session building to a full choreography, so after the first two weeks of February, you will no longer be able to join. If you can't commit to the three months this spring, don't worry- we'll be doing another session soon!

SOCIAL DANCE

--Don't forget- our dances go until 11 PM now!--

After class, from 9 PM-11 PM we'll have our regular weekly dance. Staying for the social dance is a great way to try out moves you learn from lessons, as well as get to know your classmates, and it's free if you take a class.

ON FEBRUARY 5th Jeremy Mohney and his band are playing for us, so stick around for some great live music!

BALBOA ROOM
Our Balboa room will be open every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, but there's a small adjustment: The first half hour will be a Balboa practice session with instructor available to answer questions, then DJed music from 9:30ish-10:30. This is to give our dancers some faster music, an intimate space to dance, and hopefully provide more room on the main dance floor.

Wednesdays at SKEYE Brewing

Join us for classes on Wednesdays at SKEYE Brewing! We're switching up the schedule a little bit, starting with Level 2 at 6:30 PM. This month is our Six Count month, focusing on moves and patterns with six counts instead of eight. You are able to attend this class if you have completed both months of Level 1.5 Of course, we still have our Level 1 for beginners starting at 7:30 PM.

ON FEBRUARY 28TH we're having our monthly social dance after classes. Join us after classes from 8:30-10 PM for a beer, music and swing dancing!

Tuesdays at East Simpson Swing

Get excited for our newest night of swing dancing!

We are starting a new lesson series at East Simpson Coffee Company in Lafayette. For the month of February, we will be running our Level 1 curriculum from 7-8 PM followed by a half hour practice session to dance/ask questions. Level 1 is perfect if you've never danced before, or would like a refresh on the basics. We hope to see you there starting February 6th!

Black History Month

February is Black History Month. It is important to acknowledge that lindy hop comes from Black dancers and is rooted in Black American culture. This month, we'll be focusing on the history of lindy hop and some of the original musicians and dancers who traveled the world performing. If you haven't already, check out the posters we have at our Monday night dances!

VINTAGE CLIP SCAVENGER HUNT

There are TONS of clips of lindy hoppers from back in the 20s, 30s, and 40s (although not as many as we'd like). To focus on the footage of these original dancers, we're putting on a vintage clip scavenger hunt! Each week, there will be tasks to find, and prizes to be had at the end! Swing Sweat! is continuing! The time is still 9-10 AM every Sunday at Kakes Studios, but there may be a couple other sessions at other times throughout the month if you can't make it on Sundays. Wear comfortable clothes/shoes, and be ready to sweat to increase strength and endurance. Check it out at swingsweat.com.

Swing Lab Practice Sessions

The Swing Lab Practice Session will be continuing on the first and third Thursdays of the month (and the fifth if there is one). The first practice session will be February 1st. Expect a little more structure than previous sessions, but still a great place to work on things and ask questions.

As in the past, a $3-$5 donation is helpful to cover the cost of the room.

Friendly Faces Cards

At Boulder Swing, we believe community is the most important thing, even above the dancing (gasp!). We will continue to have Friendly Faces Dance Cards every Monday night and at our monthly dances at SKEYE. When you take a card, you have to fill in the names of five people you either have never danced with or haven't danced with in at least a month. Once you complete the card (can be in one night or over the course of multiple nights), turn it in to be put in a prize drawing! It's our little way of saying thank you for dancing with people you may not know, because it makes our community so much better!

Social Events

Every month at Boulder Swing we try to take the time to focus on our community of dancers. This opportunity affords us the ability to get to know the people we dance with every week, and the folks whom maybe we don't dance with because they practice the same dance roll.

Stay tuned for our February outing!

Just one more quick note:

Online reviews actually help us out a lot! We'd love to hear about your experiences on Google or Yelp.
