Class Track Descriptions

Intermediate Lindy Hop
This level is for dancers who have been dancing Lindy Hop for at least 6-12 months and have likely taken some intermediate classes. You’re comfortable with the basics—swingouts, circles, and Charleston—and ready to expand your repertoire. These classes will focus on refining your fundamentals, adding new moves and variations, and building confidence in your musicality and partnering.

Advanced Lindy Hop
This level is geared toward experienced dancers who have been dancing Lindy Hop for several years and are ready to push themselves further. You’ve likely been taking intermediate or advanced classes for some time, tried performing on a team and/or have competed. You social dance regularly, and want to dive deep into technique, connection, and styling. These classes will challenge you to identify and improve your weaker areas while developing greater precision, creativity, and personal expression in your dancing.

Invitational Lindy Hop
Inquire about this track if you are already a very experienced dancer with competitions and/or performances under your belt and you are looking to get some serious feedback and ideas for growing in your dancing. The first six people to register for both the invitational class and the open mix and match will get free competition feedback from Laura Keat a week after the event.

Competitions

The Boulder Swing Break and Shake will feature two divisions of mix-and-match competitions, contests that pair dancers with random partners for a chance to showcase their social dancing skills. Competitors do not need a partner to join these contests because they will be assigned partners for each round. Cash prizes will be awarded for first- ($100/dancer), second- ($50) and third-place ($25) results.

Entry to each contest is $10. A competitor may not dance in the same role in both events.

Divisions

Amateur Lindy Hop Mix and Match
This division is for dancers who are newer to performing or competing. You may have been social dancing for a while but have limited (or no) experience on the competition floor. This is your chance to shine, show your musicality and joy for the dance, and gain experience in a fun and supportive environment. If you're not sure whether to enter—this is probably the category for you!

Open Lindy Hop Mix and Match
This division is open to all dancers, regardless of experience level. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or an ambitious up-and-comer, this is the space to bring your best dancing to the floor. Expect a fun contest where musicality, creativity, and connection take center stage. Anything goes—just bring the spirit of Lindy Hop!

Email boulderlindyhop@gmail.com if you are unsure which division is right for you.

Format

Prelims will have competitors dance in groups/heats. You will dance with at least 2 different partners. The finals will be danced to live music, with competitors randomly assigned to one partner for a small dual (amateur) or solo (open) spotlight round. All rounds will have a warm-up all skate and a final all skate.
